adidas SL 72 RS (JR8789)
- Colour: navy blue with white (Dark Blue / Off White / Red).
- Upper: textile, suede.
- Lining: textile.
- Outsole: rubber.
- Features: EVA midsole (all-day cushioning), sawtooth rubber outsole (grip and a 1970s running look), adidas 3-Stripes on the side.
- The SL 72 was introduced in 1972, on the occasion of the Munich Olympic Games, and the abbreviation “SL” stands for “Super Light” — a lightness unheard of at the time, which gave the runner more speed. The original used a combination of nylon and suede: both materials are light and strong, and the suede trim over the toes reinforces the most abraded spot (there is no T-shaped bar here, as on the Samba). The serrated rubber outsole delivers grip and, at the same time, the recognizable look of a 1970s running shoe. RS stands for “Remastered Series”: at first glance it looks like the original, but the EVA midsole is thicker and the insole softer — more comfortable for the whole day.
